How long has Skid Control School been in business? Originated in 1967, Skid Control School is Canada’s original and longest running school of its kind.
Are there different courses for business and family? Yes, please let us know your interest, personal or business, so we can email you the appropriate program information. Our corporate program is geared towards fleet driver training with delivery primarily on weekdays. Training for the drivers in your family is available at our Oakville location and is available for weekend delivery.
How do I find out about date availability?
Whether your interest is corporate or personal, contact us by email or telephone to know the most up-to-date availability. With so many different course types and configurations, we do not post a schedule on this site. Due to the small class sizes and high demand for our programs, availability can fluctuate daily as reservations are received.
What is SafeRoads Canada®? SafeRoads® is our national program that offers a comprehensive range of courses available at Oakville and satellite locations across the country. SafeRoads® can also be delivered on site at your location anywhere in Canada for group sales.
Can any driver attend Skid Control School? To participate in the program, a driver must have a valid Ontario G or G2 licence, or equivalent. Out of province drivers are welcome as well as are U.S. licence holders. Visitors from abroad should confirm their licence eligibility at time of registration.
Who attends Skid Control School? Just about every type of driver has attended the program. For business, it’s most often sales forces, management, executives, regulatory inspectors, technicians, skilled trades, health care providers, courier drivers. For family, its parents, teens, grandparents, couples, nervous drivers or people seeking careers to which safe driving is a qualifier.
Can Skid Control School courses be given as gifts? Yes. Skid Control School makes a wonderful present. If you know the driver's schedule, plan the perfect day by reserving a course date in advance. In this case, payment by Visa or Mastercard is required to place your order. If you prefer to not select a date, we will send you a GIFT email outlining the course of your choice and enrollment instructions. Once we have been contacted by the recipient and they have reserved a course date, payment from you will be due.
Are training vehicles provided? Yes. The SCS fleet includes mid-size cars and minivans equipped with instructor controls. We have ABS and non-ABS operating systems. Our specially equipped skid vehicles produce the most realistic training experience.
How much time is spent in the vehicles?
All of our courses place an emphasis on behind-the-wheel training.
This level of training requires plenty of practice time. Graduates
of the program consistently rate this aspect of training as
having exceeded their expectations. See
what SCS graduates have to say about the program.
What is the maximum group size? Depending on the course format, maximum group sizes are typically between 9 – 15 drivers per day. Regardless of the group size, training is always structured at a 3:1 student/trainer ratio for all in-vehicle components of the program. For corporate programs, a variety of delivery formats can be considered to serve larger groups without sacrificing driving time.
Is the program safe? To ensure safety, Skid Control School trainers are always in the vehicle and skid training vehicles are dual equipped. This is not a racing course conducted at high speeds. However, with any activity there is a degree of physical exertion. Some drivers may experience motion sickness during the day and depending on the driver’s physical fitness and general stamina, may experience some muscle soreness. Participants are required to sign a standard disclaimer/waiver that cautions the following physical conditions; heart problems, severe neck or back problems, pregnancy or proneness to stomach upset.
Does the student provide the insurance? No, we are fully insured.
